Irving Infill Site Remediation and Reuse Plan

Green New Deal Housing is applying for a Brownfield Cleanup grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct site remediation for the two lots we own in the Irving neighborhood at 218 S 59th Ave W, Duluth, MN 55807. The soil is contaminated with arsenic and benzo(a)pyrene equivalent exceeding the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's soil reference values for residential use. Our draft grant proposal lays out our plan to remediate the contaminants and reuse the sites to build net zero energy affordable housing. If the grant is approved, remediation work will occur in spring/summer 2025.

We encourage you to review the grant documents linked below and provide a comment about our plan. A public meeting will be held on November 7, 2024 at 4 PM at the Evergreen Senior Center at 5830 Grand Avenue in Duluth. Public input will be incorporated to the greatest degree possible. Comments made by November 14 will be shared with the EPA at the time that we submit our application. You may also call us at 218-206-6448.
